I Walked 100k Steps Under the Belizean Sun…It Was Worth It.
Foundry College Church junior shares honestly about her experience serving with Filter of Hope over spring break.
June 22, 2026Previously, we shared how some Foundry College Church mentors are taking a bold step of faith by moving from Minnesota to share the gospel overseas.
This past spring break, a group of Foundry students had the opportunity to take their own step of faith. Rather than spending their break relaxing at home, they traveled to Belize with Filter of Hope to serve local families by distributing water filters and sharing the hope of the gospel.
Below, one of our juniors shares about her learnings and takeaways from the week:
“I came weary. I leave rejuvenated in the spirit.”
What are you thankful for on this trip?
I am thankful that I got the opportunity to go on this trip and share in God’s heart for the lost. I know that I do not have the qualifications to tell people about God, as I am a sinner, but God used me. I am also thankful that I got to share the gospel with other people. I wasn’t alone and whenever I faltered, others were there to prop me up during distribution.
What did you learn about God on this trip?
I learned that God truly deeply loves everyone and truly wants us to get to know him. The fact that God sent us to some of these homes and that they received salvation is proof of God’s love. You could tell when we went into certain homes, that God was already making His presence known and also when someone received salvation, their joy was so evident and real. God really wants his children to know Him and so He provides so many avenues. The same way He pursued me is how I could see Him pursuing others. Even when the person refused the gospel, I could see God’s heart of reaching out again and again despite rejection.
What did you learn about yourself this week?
I learned that in the face of hardships and struggles, I tend to become cynical and question my mission and purpose. One of the days, it was very hot and we had to walk a long way to get to one of the houses. As I walked under the umbrella, in the scorching sun, I kept questioning why I had come here, when I could be doing something relaxing for spring break. At the house, we met a lady who had lost her son a while ago and was grieving him. I saw how she accepted the gospel and came to accept Christ, trusting that her trust and faith would lead to heaven and not her good works. After that, I thought to myself that it was worth it to walk all that way to bring her the gospel despite my tiredness. If my temporary suffering could allow me to carry the good news to her, it was all worth it. Her salvation, renewed hope, and restored relationship with Christ was worth it. I really had to die to myself several times on this trip. At times, when my feet hurt after standing too long, I would try to pray for the person we were bringing the gospel to instead of focusing on my tired legs. I saw God growing me in that way and I see that despite my experience in Belize, I really have to learn to trust in God’s purpose for me and die to myself despite my discomfort.
What lessons/applications do you want to bring back home?
One lesson is that the Holy Spirit works in people’s lives and not man. Several times, we would meet people who did not have a clear understanding of the gospel and despite several clarifications, they would refuse to accept salvation. It showed me that it was not about how good we shared the gospel, but that it was God’s work in their lives. We are just vessels being used in others’ lives.
I was also encouraged to share the Good News with people around me. It is hypocritical of me to go all the way to Belize to share the gospel when people and family around me have never heard the gospel. I want to share with my mother, father, brother, and classmates despite the consequences.
So thankful for all the ways that the team got to experience God at work in Belize! See their mission trip recap video on our YouTube!
